A truly wild story from the creative history of WWE has emerged, involving the late, great Bray Wyatt and the notorious cult leader Charles Manson.
Former WWE writer Nick Manfredini shared the astonishing revelation on the Wrestling with Freddie Podcast, detailing how a bizarre request for a meeting was quickly shut down by top management.
According to Manfredini, the connection was made through one of Windham Rotunda’s (Bray Wyatt) college football teammates who later became a prison guard at the facility housing Charles Manson.
Manfredini explained:
“Allegedly, this guy showed Manson the Bray Wyatt promos, and he wanted to meet him, and this was a whole thing.”
The request eventually filtered up to WWE management via Mike Rotunda, Windham's father. Unsurprisingly, the idea of a meeting, perhaps for a Network special or promotional footage, was immediately dismissed.
“I don’t know if it was Hunter or Vince or someone and they immediately squashed it. Obviously, that’s a terrible idea,” Manfredini stated, adding the ultimate verdict: “Bray Wyatt probably would have never seen TV again if we did that.”
While the macabre nature of the request speaks volumes about the compelling and disturbing appeal of the original Bray Wyatt character—especially during his early "Eater of Worlds" run—WWE officials correctly saw the massive public relations nightmare such a meeting would entail.
The story remains a shocking piece of wrestling history that thankfully never materialized.
