Are you kidding me with this, Tony?!
Former AEW Women's World Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. has been completely gone from our screens since November of last year, and what do we get from the Head of Creative when asked about one of the original pillars of the Women's Division?
A bunch of wishy-washy, corporate non-answers that sound like a guy who’s lost his car keys.I'm talking about the woman who carried this division on her back for years! The moment the cameras turn off, she disappears into the ether, and the excuse machine starts spinning.
Tony Khan, who is the booker, mind you, keeps giving these quotes about how much he misses her, yet he does NOTHING. He told Ariel Helwani he
"would love to have Britt back in AEW" and that he believes "Britt is going to be back... and I hope soon."
"I hope soon?" You're the one holding the pen! What is stopping you?!
It’s the same old tune about waiting for the 'perfect moment.' Khan claims he's
"just looking for the right time with Britt,"
and wants it to be
"the right situation for her and everybody involved."
Spare us the sentiment. We are one month away from it being a full year since her last televised match against Penelope Ford on Dynamite on November 13th! Is this "right time" supposed to happen after the heat death of the universe?
The "Health" Excuse is Wearing Thin
Yes, Britt has dealt with real, serious injuries, her health is paramount. And Tony makes sure to tell us he respects her medical training and work ethic, stating,
"I want to make sure she's 100%, and that's important to me."
But let's be honest: are we really buying that Britt Baker—a D.M.D. who is constantly in the gym and, according to reports, has been "staying in peak physical condition"—is being held back only by health for a year? Or is this another case of an over-stuffed roster where the person who built the division gets shuffled off the deck because the boss can't figure out a coherent story?
"I think Britt's a great example of somebody that's very, very talented and we could utilize in AEW when thetimeisright," Khan said recently.
The right time was six months ago! The right situation is any situation where she’s holding a mic and dropping the biggest stars on their heads!
Stop wishing for her to return, Tony. Stop hoping it'll be soon. You're the boss. If you truly believe she is "still very much with us" and a "fantastic, fantastic wrestling star," then do your job and BOOK HER!
What do you think is really keeping Britt Baker off AEW TV?
