Former WCW and WWE Champion Bill Goldberg has openly voiced his dissatisfaction regarding WWE's booking of Asuka's undefeated streak, suggesting the company intentionally had her surpass his own iconic record.
During a recent interview, Goldberg referred to Asuka as "some Japanese girl" and alluded to her streak's timing coinciding with his return to WWE, implying a deliberate effort by the promotion. He stated, "They gave it to 'Asooka,' you know, ‘some Japanese girl,’ and I’m like, ‘Really? You’re going to take my thing and you’re going to give it to somebody else, and you’re going to make it, like, a minute longer, just to spite me?’"
Goldberg's legendary WCW undefeated streak was officially recognized at 173-0 before he suffered his first loss to Kevin Nash at Starrcade in 1998. Asuka's run, encompassing both NXT and the main roster, eventually eclipsed that number before she was defeated by Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34 in 2018, ending her streak at 914 days and an unofficial count of 267 televised and untelevised victories.
While Goldberg's comments reflect his personal feelings on the matter, the debate over historical records and their presentation in professional wrestling remains a recurring topic among fans and performers alike.
