The world of professional wrestling is rife with legendary backstage stories, but few are as comically infamous as the moment Big E was finally pushed to his limit by the ultimate locker room ribber, Hornswoggle (Dylan Postl). While Big E originally shared the tale, Hornswoggle's own account now fills in the hilarious and crucial details of just how close the powerhouse came to snapping.
Hornswoggle: The "Closet Bully"
On the What's Your Story? podcast, Hornswoggle readily admitted to his role as the chief antagonist. He confirmed that his reputation as a backstage pest was well-earned, attributing his unchecked antics to being protected by his on-screen guardian, the rugged Fit Finlay.
“I bullied Big E a lot. I always bullied Big E... I was like the closet bully at times,” Hornswoggle confessed. “Big E, riding, I poked and prodded..."
The relentless teasing got so bad that the usually jovial Big E reached a genuine breaking point, sending a desperate text to his New Day partners, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
“I don’t know if I can put up with Dylan (Hornswoggle) anymore. He just keeps bullying me. He won’t stop.”
Hearing this, Kofi and Woods finally gave Big E permission to end the torment: “Just put him in his place.”
The Unforgettable "Superman" Kick
The moment of retribution came as the group was walking into a wrestling building, with Hornswoggle delivering his final annoyance of the day.
Big E, having reached the end of his rope and with his friends’ blessing, took immediate, explosive action.
“We were walking into a building, I was bullying him that day, and he just walked in behind me, and he booted me, from the backpack," Hornswoggle recalled. "Boom! And I, as Kofi describes it, I Superman’d."
The force of the kick, delivered to the middle of Hornswoggle's backpack, launched him airborne, sending him horizontal before he crashed down.
“I landed right on my face, and my backpack hit, and E didn’t even say a thing,” Hornswoggle added.
"Breaking Point?": A Moment of Locker Room Truth
Hornswoggle, dazed but quickly realizing the gravity of the situation, immediately looked at Kofi Kingston for confirmation.
“I literally got up, I look at Kofi and go, ‘Breaking point?’ He goes, ‘Yeah I think that was his breaking point.’"
In the end, even the master ribber had to concede defeat. Hornswoggle walked up to the silent Big E and offered a rare, perfect backstage apology:
“I literally walked up and said, ‘Yeah I deserved that.’ And he goes, ‘Oh yeah you did.’”
The story remains a hilarious example of locker room dynamics, proving that no matter how big or strong you are, a tiny, determined antagonist can drive you to your limits, resulting in a moment of legendary, well-deserved retribution.
