AEW star Kenny Omega has opened up about his longtime teammate Kota Ibushi’s recent career-altering injury.
Ibushi broke his femur during a spot in his match against Josh Alexander on the October 8 taping of AEW Collision. The Japanese pro wrestler is set to be out of action for at least two years.
In a recent conversation with SHAK Wrestling, Omega admitted that Ibushi’s injury was hard for him to accept, as it came out of the blue. Even though he found it hard to say that the show must go on, The Cleaner admitted that one cannot really do anything about it, as it’s just a reflection of the unpredictable nature of life.
Ibushi, another example of something terrible happening that no one expected. That one was really rough on me to kind of do the ‘the show must go on’ sort of… It was hard for me to accept that. But the truth of the matter is, it must go on. It just… that’s life. Life goes on, and the show goes on. And so you have to take the lemon sometimes and begrudgingly make lemonade. And that’s what we’re doing here for sure,” he said
Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega were reportedly set to reunite for a tag team bout at WrestleDream. However, Ibushi’s injury forced AEW to pivot. The Cleaner is set to be in action at tonight’s Full Gear. He will team up with Jurassic Express (Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) to take on Josh Alexander and The Young Bucks in a $1M Trios match.
