As many will attest, I am a wrestling nerd of international proportions. I don't care if it's stateside, England, Mexico, or Japan... I love all of it and my big focus is and always has been on Japanese Puroresu.
I was introduced to it while tape trading with a friend of mine from Beantown. He was part of this tape trading community and would get smaller American promotions but all of a sudden he had Lucha tapes from Mexico. I got to see the likes of Dr. Wagner or Blue Santos. Then the day came when he got a tape called Best of the Super Juniors, a wrestling tournament of the lightweights/cruiserweights or as the Japanese called them... Super Juniors and this was when I was introduced to the amazing and best Super Junior of them all... Jushin Thunder Liger!
You know, there are some songs that no matter when or where you hear it, you associate with a distinct memory. 20th Century Fanfare, no matter what movie it is... when I hear it I always thought as a kid that it was Star Wars. I still do to this day. Same with Jushin Liger's theme.
When that opening synth opens up, I get chills up and down my arm every time. I know when that music hits, we are going to see not just one of the greatest lightweight wrestlers of all time, but very well one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. The music fits the man, the myth, and the legend. It's high-energy, fast-paced and just goes non-stop, much like Ligersan.
I don't think you could find any entrance music that fits a wrestler better, and if you can I'd like to see it.As many will attest, I am a wrestling nerd of international proportions.
