Powerhouse Hobbs's Road to AEW

Powerhouse Hobbs's journey to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) began during a particularly dark and difficult period in his life, shortly after he had been laid off from his job in 2020.

Before joining AEW, Hobbs worked for Facebook/Instagram, where he ran their facilities department, overseeing about four different buildings. One day, he received an unexpected call informing him that his contract would be terminated shortly after he had been told he would get a month off with pay. Despite the initial shock, Hobbs now feels that everything happens for a reason, stating, "I am glad that I got let go and I am living my dream."

The Call That Wasn't a Prank

After losing his job, Hobbs struggled to find new employment. He applied at fast-food restaurants but was turned away because he was told he was "overqualified." His daughter was also only a few months old at the time, adding to the pressure.

It was during this low point that he received a text message from QT Marshall about coming to AEW. Hobbs initially dismissed the message as a prank or someone "ribbing" him and didn't respond for about three or four hours. It wasn't until he received a follow-up text from Cody Rhodes that he realized the opportunity was real. Hobbs decided he had to "bet on myself at this point," which led him to sign with AEW.
