The wrestling world is buzzing after reports surfaced regarding a significant backstage incident involving former WWE Superstar Nixon Newell, best known as Tegan Nox, and independent standout Miranda Alize, leading to their apparent walkout from an AEW Collision taping.
The duo was slated to face the popular team of TayJay (Tay Melo & Anna Jay), but the match never materialized as originally planned.
Although, its is now surfacing
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the core of the issue stemmed from a creative disagreement over the planned outcome of the match. Johnson reported that Newell and Alize "refused to lose" in what would have been their second appearance for AEW. The pair had already suffered a loss in their debut last week, and it appears another defeat so soon was not in their plans.
However, another news outlet provided additional context, suggesting the dispute might have been more complex than a simple refusal to do a job. The primary point of contention was reportedly the match's allotted time. Newell and Alize were allegedly informed their match was only scheduled for three minutes. Sources indicate they requested more time, feeling they couldn't adequately showcase themselves in such a short window, but were told the timing was firm.
This suggests the issue might have been less about the outcome itself and more about the perceived lack of opportunity to perform effectively.
With Newell and Alize reportedly unwilling to proceed under the given conditions, AEW officials had to scramble to find a replacement. Independent wrestlers Hyan and Maya ultimately stepped into the breach, facing TayJay in the scheduled slot. Both reportedly earned praise backstage for their professionalism and willingness to step up on short notice.
In the wake of the reports, neither Newell nor Alize have offered a full public statement directly addressing the incident. However, Newell did post a cryptic message on social media stating,
"Not everything you read is true. Remember that."
This suggests she disputes at least part of the narrative circulating, though she did not elaborate further.
It's important to note that neither Nixon Newell nor Miranda Alize are believed to be under official AEW contracts at this time, working instead on per-appearance deals. While the incident is undoubtedly a black eye for their potential relationship with the promotion, the lack of a long-term commitment means the immediate contractual implications are minimal. However, such a public disagreement could certainly impact future opportunities with AEW.
The situation highlights the often-strained balance between creative vision and talent expectations in professional wrestling. Whether the issue was primarily about wins and losses, match time, or a combination of factors, it has certainly generated significant discussion and will be closely watched by us here at AFW so we can continue to bring you up to fate wrestling news.
