6. Trish Stratus (Toronto, Ontario)
The revolutionary who redefined the Women's Division.
Trish Stratus is not just one of Canada's greatest wrestlers; she is arguably the most influential woman in WWE history. Debuting in 2000 as a fitness model and valet, Stratus silenced critics with an unprecedented transformation into a highly skilled in-ring technician.
Her dedication to the craft elevated the women’s division, paving the way for the modern "Women's Evolution." She captured the WWE Women's Championship a record-setting 7 times Her legendary rivalry with Lita famously culminated in the first-ever women's main event on Monday Night Raw.
In a perfect farewell, her 2006 retirement match in Toronto saw her challenge and defeat Lita for the Women’s Championship using a submission move in tribute to fellow Canadian, Bret Hart, allowing her to retire as a champion.
Stratus's fierce patriotism and connection to her home country were defining aspects of her persona. She once famously stated,
"I always say I have a hometown that's a country because everywhere I go in Canada, I always get a hometown reception." She remains a celebrated Canadian cultural figure, hosting the 2006 Canada's Walk of Fame and cementing her legacy with her 2013 induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
5. Owen Hart (Calgary, Alberta)
The King of Harts: Technical genius, high-flyer, and the ultimate versatile performer.
Born into the legendary Hart dynasty, Owen Hart was a true prodigy who honed his craft in Stu Hart's infamous Dungeon. He possessed a rare hybrid style, blending the technical precision of the Hart family with spectacular, gravity-defying aerial maneuvers that were ahead of their time. This unique skill set made him the ultimate workhorse of his era.
His career-defining moment came when he stepped out of his brother Bret's shadow, famously turning heel to become the "King of Harts" and delivering an instant classic match against Bret at WrestleMania X. He was the versatile backbone of the WWF, capturing the Intercontinental, European, and multiple Tag Team Championships.
During the 1997 reformation of The Hart Foundation, Owen’s ability to draw intense heat in the U.S while being adored as a national hero in Canada showcased his incredible range as a performer. As his brother Bret reflected on that era:
"We were heroes in Canada and villains in the U.S. It was the best time of our lives... We were proud to be Canadian."
Owen's legacy is that of an incredibly talented and beloved in-ring worker whose charismatic presence and technical brilliance left an indelible mark on the industry before his tragic passing in 1999 the at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 23, during the WWF's Over the Edge event, when a harness malfunctioned during his entrance from the rafters. Owen is still foundly spoken of and praised for his hard work and dedication to the wrestling industry. Owen may gone but he is definitely not forgotten!
