Tommy Dreamer's Take: Why Mercedes Moné Should Vacate Her Belts

ECW legend and wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding AEW star Mercedes Moné and her massive collection of championship belts, suggesting she should consider vacating most of them.

Moné, who has cultivated a "Belt Collector" persona reminiscent of Kenny Omega's run, has amassed an array of championships from multiple promotions, including the AEW TBS Championship. While this feat demonstrates her dominance, Dreamer, a co-host on SiriusXM's Busted Open radio, has often voiced a critique of the "belt hunter" gimmick, arguing it can devalue the championships and the women's division as a whole.

The core of Dreamer's concern is that having a single wrestler hold a large number of titles simultaneously can make the belts feel less significant and can also stagnate the division by preventing other deserving wrestlers from having a championship run. For a company like AEW, which has a deep roster of talented women, Dreamer likely believes the focus should be on elevating multiple stars, not consolidating all the gold onto one person.

 To quote Dreamer he said :

"I would have Mercedes win. And just to be a bigger douche, vacate every title, which then goes to [her saying], I'm not putting everybody over but due to my hectic schedule, make her a bigger heel. I'm only acknowledging this title, almost like everything you did was a stepping stone to get to what you wanted. But then vacate every other title you have because this is the most meaningful, which then also puts that light in that title for being the biggest one,"

The wrestling world is divided on the storyline, but for Tommy Dreamer, a veteran with a traditionalist view on the importance of championships, the solution is clear: Moné should relinquish her peripheral titles to focus on one or two key championships, freeing up the other belts to create meaningful opportunities and compelling stories for the rest of the women's roster.
