A new lawsuit has been filed against Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, WWE, and TKO Group Holdings, accusing them of enabling the widespread sexual abuse of underaged boys known as “ring boys” by former WWE employee Mel Phillips.

The lawsuit, filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, MD, is brought by five survivors, identified as John Does 1-5, who allege they were groomed and sexually exploited by Phillips while working for WWE.

The plaintiffs claim that Vince and Linda McMahon were fully aware of the abuse but failed to intervene or stop it.

The lawsuit outlines how Phillips, who worked as a ringside announcer and ring crew chief, hired vulnerable young boys to assist with errands and other tasks during WWE events, ultimately using his position to exploit them. Greg Gutzler, a partner at DiCello Levitt representing the plaintiffs, condemned WWE’s failure to protect the boys, stating:

“That so many were aware of the sexual abuse of the Ring Boys and did nothing to prevent or stop it is simply unconscionable.”

He emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable for the decades-long abuse.

The survivors, who have only recently learned the full extent of the McMahons’ knowledge of the abuse, are seeking justice now in part due to recent changes in sex abuse laws. The case also follows revelations that surfaced after WWE’s merger with TKO and Vince McMahon’s exit from the company.

Mark DiCello, founding partner of DiCello Levitt, commended the survivors for their bravery in coming forward, noting:

“We will vigorously fight to uncover the truth about this systemic, insidious, and life-altering abuse.”
