This Day in Wrestling History

On this day in 1988 was the birth of one of the Big 4 PPV's from the company of the north... None other than WWE's SummerSlam, held in Madison Square Garden.

Some of the more notable matches that was held was:

  1. Rick Rude defeating JYD by DQ after Jake the Snake Roberts ran down and attacked Rude for having a picture of Roberts wife airbrushed on his tights.

  2. Ultimate Warrior beat Honkeytonk Man and set two records. Fastest pin where Warrior pinned Honky and Warrior ending the longest Intercontinental reign of all time.

  3. The World Tag Team Champions Demolition defeated The Hart Foundation.

However, the match it's probably best known for was the Main Event which saw The Mega Powers of Hulk Hogan and Macho Man took on and defeated Andre the Giant and Ted DiBase, The Mega Bucks. Hogan pinned Dibase after he was distracted when Miss Elizabeth took off her skirt. Jesse The Body Ventura was the guest referee and refused to do the three count and instead slow counted after Hogan dropped the leg on Dibase. Savage took Ventura's hand and slammed it hard for the third count and Hulk and Macho were winners.

Of course, we knew that the road to one of the biggest turns was going to happen at WrestleMania and would see the Mega Powers implode.
