This Day in Wrestling History

In 2007, WWE and their Wellness policy came into the light as several wrestlers were suspended under this wellness policy.

After investigators in Albany presented evidence of rampant drug use in the WWE and an investigation by Sports Illustrated that talked about the company in Florida that was sending drugs to WWE wrestlers, the WWE suspended 10 wrestlers for violations of their wellness policy. Several of these wrestlers died within months of this investigation.

Wrestlers that are deceased that were suspended:

  1. Chris Benoit: nandrolone and anastrozole in Feb. 2006

  2. Eddie Guerrero: nandrolone, anastrozole and testosterone 2 weeks before passing away in Nov. of 2005

  3. Brian Adams (Crush): nandrolone, testosterone and somatropin in Dec. 2006 despite being not employed by the WWE at the time.

  4. Edward Fatu (Umaga): somatropin from July to Dec. of 2006

Wrestler not working for WWE at this time:

  1. Sylvain Grenier: somatropin, nandrolone, genotropin and stanozolol between Feb, 2005 and July 2006

  2. Chavo Guerrero: somatropin, nandrolone and anastrozole from 05-06

  3. Shane Helms: testosterone, genotropin and nandrolone from 03-07

  4. Ken Anderson(Kennedy): anastrozole, somatropin and testosterone from 06-07

  5. Funaki: somatropin in March in 2006

  6. Charlie Haas: anastrozole, somatropin, stanozolol, nandrolone and chorionic gonadotropin from 06-07

Wrestlers still currently working for WWE

  1. Randy Orton: somatropin, nandrolone and stanozolol between 04-07

  2. John Hennigan (Morrison): somatropin, anastrozole, testosterone, stanozolol and chorionic gonadotropin between 06-07

  3. Darren Matthews (William Regal): stanozolol, somatropin, genotropin and anastrozole between 04-06

  4. Adam Copeland (Edge): somatropin, genotropin and anastrozole between 04 and 07.

This is one of the first of many times that wrestlers have been suspended over the WWE's Wellness Policy. While this should come at no surprise as athletes will always look for that extra boost to maintain or get better, WWE has shown a lack of enforcement of their policy unless it comes to light by prosecutors and or special investigations. I hope they take this a lot more serious.
