This Day in Wrestling History

On this day in 1991, The Excellence of Execution went through the gamut to become the 1991 King of the Ring, the first of his two he would win with the WWF/WWE.

Bret beat Pete Doherty with the sharpshooter in only 33 seconds before he had to face Skinner, which he beat with the Sharpshooter in less than 5 minutes. He got a bye in the next round as Undertaker and Sid Vicious ended in a double disqualification.

In the final round, in front of a packed Civic Center in Providence, RI, Bret took on Irwin R. Schyster (I.R.S.) and for 10 minutes, they went back and forth but Bret would end the tournament with a win with a clean pin in the middle of the ring. Bret would also win this again in 93, becoming the only two time King of the Ring Champion.
