Backlash 2022 kicked off with Cody Rhodes vs Seth “Freakin” Rollins 2. I was so excited for this match, both guys are in their primes and this match was everything I hoped it would be and more. Rollins came out dressed as the Cookie monster's gentleman caller. It's either what he wore at WrestleMania 38 or is based off it, because it felt very familiar. Cody Rhodes had his normal kick ass entrance dressed as Edward from Full Metal Alchemist or a Blow pop if you don’t like anime. In terms of just the match it was arguably better than their match at WrestleMania. Listing spots would do this match a disservice so please watch it when you have time.
Winner: Cody Rhodes

Second on the card was Omos w/MVP vs Bobby Lashley w/o MVP. The first match these two had was fine. I think Omos has a natural physical swagger if he can Improve in the ring and keep improving his physical storytelling, he and MVP can be a fun mid card act for years. The match wasn’t bad like it was better than the first one, but there wasn't much to be excited about. I hate the rest holds Omos does, I just screams Khali and Giant Gonzalez which sucks because I really do think with patience and careful booking Omos could be a big draw for WWE down the line. Lashley got the advantage when Omos got tied up in the ropes. Lashley put MVP in the “Hurt Lock” at ringside and that’s when Omos got the advantage. Omos eventually won after MVP hit Lashley with his cane.
Winner: Omos

Next was Edge vs AJ Styles. This match was so good guys. The match had its quiet stretches but at its high spots this match was great. Edge and AJ always deliver you can give these guys any story with any opponent, and they will make it work. Another match that I wouldn’t blame you for liking better than the match at Mania. I honestly don’t know, because the Mania match obviously had a much hotter crowd. Like there was barely a noise for a freakin spear. Damien Priest came out to the aisle during the match and got really into it when Balor made the save. AJ went to the top rope and was pulled down by a hooded figure. This allowed Edge to choke out AJ for the win. The hooded figure was revealed to be Rhea Ripley. I’m really excited for this, but I would've personally preferred to see Nikki Cross slowly turn back to Sanity Nikki under the influence of Edge. But I love Rhea, I just think Nikki needs it more.
Winner: Edge

Next was (C) Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey. I didn’t care about this match for WrestleMania, and I didn’t care for this one either. I like Ronda's style in the ring, she will become more polished in time. But the idea of Ronda being a babyface makes me puke in my mouth and roll my eyes so hard they start to fall out of my head. Charlotte is one of the best in the world when she shows up to work, I just think she needs to not have a title for like a year at least, like please she doesn’t need it. The video package for this match was more painful than seven separate child births but the match was great. Jesus in heaven those kendo stick shots. By far Ronda Rousey’s best WWE match in my opinion. #ANDNEW
Winner: Ronda Rousey

Up next was the cool off match between Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. I think Baron Corbin is super underrated and the Sad Corbin story had a lot of potential, but I don’t like the direction they went with it like a lot of it was fun but more of it was terrible. Just like this match. I’m joking, the match was bad, but it wasn’t terrible. It was more clunky than anything. The crowd was not into the rest holds and even though the story has been being told for a long time 90% of fans don’t care about this story or this match. I think the show, the match, and wrestlers involved would be better received if this match happened on Smackdown. I felt my skin dry out watching this match, Moss showed potential, but I’d like to see him a lot more in NXT, I think he needs to develop more, and his character fits a lot more on that brand. Hopefully this story is over now.
Winner: Madcap Moss

Next was Your Mainnnnn event! Of the evening. (McRK-Bro) Drew Mcintyre, RK-BRO vs The Bloodline. I wanted the unification match, but this match was 40 minutes of amazing wrestling. WWE reminded the world that when WWE want to, they know how to do tag team wrestling. This match had everything you wanted in the main event except you know, any titles being on the line. Like if the Bloodline is going to win and they're going to put on a great match anyway why not put all the titles on the line? In the grand scheme of things this match was ultimately meaningless. A lot of fun and a great match, but a meaningless match. But to end on a positive note, this match did a great job of setting up Drew as a worthy contender to Roman.
Winners: Bloodline
