D.M.D.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, home of many sports teams. From the Steelers to the Penguins and the Pirates. But Pittsburgh is also know for athletes in the sport of professional wrestling too. Most notably WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle. Now another Steel City native has taken over the sport of pro wrestling. It is none other than Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.

Sometimes in wrestling performers will use different titles for their characters/personas. We’ve seen generals and kings and doctors among others. Most of the time those titles are just that and hold no bearing outside of wrestling. But that is not the case with Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a major in behavioral medicine and a minor in human development. Baker went on to get her Doctorate in Medical Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh. At the same time she was earning her degree she also embarked on a second career path that she would prove to be equally successful at, professional wrestling.

Baker would start her wrestling career on the independents as most do but what’s different about her is she did this at the same time she was attending school for dentistry. Both are hard to do when solely focusing on one or the other and she did them at the same time. That is a testament to the drive and work ethic she possesses. Baker would graduate in 2018 and continue to wrestle on the independents. She would also appear on the independent PPV All In which would prove to be a precursor to her next adventure.

In 2019 Dr. Baker would sign with the newly formed company All Elite Wrestling. She would be the first female signed to the company, which shows the confidence the company had in her from the beginning and rightfully so. For her first year with the company Dr. Baker was in a babyface roll, the good guy. But on an episode of Dynamite Baker would turn heel after verbally assaulting Tony Schivone becoming everyone’s favorite role model in the process.

Shortly thereafter Dr. Baker would sustain an injury that would keep her out of the ring until All Out 2020. But that wouldn’t keep her off our screens. Dr. Baker would be regularly featured on Dynamite feuding with Big Swole. Even from a wheelchair Britt would still continue to be one of the most entraining people on Dynamite week after week. She would return to the ring at All Out but not in the traditional sense. She would have the first ever tooth and nail match that took place at her very own dental office.

In the months that followed Dr. Baker would go on to show why she is one of the best in the business in her feud with Thunder Rosa. They would have some great matches and the feud would culminate in a non sanctioned lights out main event on Dynamite. The first women’s main event on Dynamite.

Following her feud with Thunder Rosa Baker would call into question the validity of the AEW ranking system. But instead of complaining about it she promised to climb the rankings until she was #1 contender. And climb she did, winning match after match until she found herself across the ring from the AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing 2021.

Dr. Baker would go on to defeat the longest reigning AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida and become the new champion. What at first seemed to be a forgone conclusion that she would eventually be champion wasn’t that easy. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. once again overcame every obstacle, whether it be injury or her initial babyface run not clicking as much as some hoped. Dr. Baker is just getting started on what will be a great title run. So far showing her toughness in a title defense against Nyla Rose which she won with a broken freakin wrist. I have no doubt Britt Baker will continue to show us why she is the baddest bitch on the block.
